At SPEF we offer several different Summer Enrichment Program offerings to fit your families needs. SPEF Summer School & Summer Camps welcomes students from all over, not just South Pasadena. We are open to anyone that would like to join us.
SPEF Summer School
Each year, more than 2,000 students count on South Pasadena Educational Foundation’s Summer School program to brush up on basics, jump ahead on critical academic topics, expand their skills and ignite their imaginations. SPEF offers proficiency and enrichment classes to students of all ages – from incoming kindergartners to high school seniors. There are over 150 classes to choose from making SPEF confident that we have classes to please each student.
Elementary (K-4) & Intermediate (5-8) Summer School
June 10, 2024 - July 5, 2024 - no school on the June 19 and July 4 holidays
Incoming K-8 grade students can explore their interests in a fun, relaxed, project-based summer learning environment. There are a total of five class periods in a day so you can choose classes to fit your childs interests and needs. Our course options include English, math, foreign language, experimental science, robotics, coding, music, dance, theater, art, sewing, science, martial arts, tennis, yoga, animation, film-making, martial arts, proficiency, and more!
High School Summer School:
June 17, 2024 - July 19, 2024 - no school on the June 19 and July 4 holidays
Incoming 9-12 grade students can explore their interests and gain advanced credits in classes or recover a grade for high school graduation and college admissions.
WASC Accredited
SPEF Summer High School is an independently operated Summer Program accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Per the SPEF board and SPUSD board-approved agreement, SPEF Summer courses use the South Pasadena High School (SPHS) facility and standards-aligned curriculum. If you have questions about your scheduling, please see your counselor. For out-of-district students, please get the SPEF class you would like to register for approved by your counselor. SPEF Summer Camps - Variety for All!
SPEF Summer Camps are offered throughout summer and are one-week options. From Sports to Technology and Art to Science, SPEF Camps provide students in our community with a foundation of fundamental skills and knowledge.
Art Camp
Art projects will use different media as we explore different artists and their techniques. Last summers class focused on artists such as Monet & watercolors, Community art in Shepard Fairey style, to Pop Art & Digital art. This year students will explore concepts, practice techniques & produce artwork that shows their individual style & perspective while learning about new artists. New content for returning students.

Basketball Camp
Join the SPHS basketball coach & team and have fun playing basketball. This camp challenges players in all aspects of the game on the court, as well as off the court, through participation in leadership and character development. Students will learn shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, and defense skills that will equip beginning and more advanced players with skills to advance! Chess Club All chess levels are welcome. Beginners will learn the pieces and how to read the chess board. More advanced players will build their playing strategies. Learn chess terminology, and strategies while boosting your child's critical thinking and problem-solving skills. |
Coding Club
SPEF’s Next Generation Coding Camp is a coding boot camp that gives incoming 2-8 grade students a first-look introduction to the world of computer science. The camp will be taught by passionate and knowledgeable SPHS Coding Club members with a supervising teacher. Your child will leave SPEF’s Next Generation Coding Camp with a general understanding of computer science through a variety of interactive activities, basic block coding lessons, guest speakers from the computer science field, and more!

Join Ms. Cheyne & Ms. Claire in SPEF’S Summer Dance Camp for a week of dance, music, and making new friends! We will explore the joy of movement plus improve balance, and build self-esteem, and fitness while having fun!
Modern • Ballet • Jazz • Hip Hop • Tap
Students will learn to warm-up ––exercises, and get to try different styles of dance. Students will learn dance routines that help develop focus and give students practice following directions. This camp is a positive introduction to dance in a non-competitive environment. No previous experience is necessary to enroll.

For students with some Mandarin Language or students currently in a Dual Immersion Mandarin Program such as the one at our Marengo Elementary school,, this camp is designed as a Summer helper class. Teachers will help students review content from their year just completed, plus offer students a ‘Jumpstart’ to next year, by practicing Traditional Mandarin and conversation skills. Registration is open to all, from beginners to those currently enrolled DI Mandarin students or students on the DI waitlist who are hoping to join the DI program in future years.

Soccer Camp with Brit-West
BRIT WEST is dedicated to providing quality soccer instruction while promoting sportsmanship and fun. Camp activities have been designed to develop a player’s skill and technique while having fun. Brit West’s program includes many different aspects of the game including ball familiarity, passing, and shooting.
