Resources are slim, and it’s up to us to evaluate how we source energy in efficient ways that are kind to our planet! We’ll spend the week GOING GREEN, diving into resources and how we transform them into the energy that impacts our daily lives. We’ll investigate different forms of energy and the importance of conservation, design, and innovation to turn our world on and color it GREEN! Camper Quote: “I think it’s very important that we take care of our Earth. It’s so cool to see kids my age in the news fighting to make a difference. I want to learn how we can stop climate change and save our planet.”
We will explore how technology automation is used to solve common problems and how computer and software programming, encryption and big data play a role in the products we love. Girls will dig deep into the relationship between tech and data, robotics and automation, and the latest innovations in augmented reality. Girls will work in groups to come up with innovations of their own. This week is all about uncovering the data behind the products and mobile apps we love! Camper Quote: “I’m obsessed with watching videos on my phone and tablet, but I want to know how I can make them myself and maybe design an app one day.” |
Explore Earth’s systems (sun, moon and solar system) and several means of technology that allow us to learn more about our universe. Everything from space suits and communications to spacecraft and rockets will surely propel your girl's knowledge to infinity and beyond to expand her universe of possibilities! Camper Quote: “I watched the movie "Hidden Figures" and was shocked that so much goes into exploring outer space. Astronauts learn SO many new things living on a space station. Seeing what they discover makes me want to be an explorer too!”
Invention, innovation and, entrepreneurship! We will explore challenges the world is facing and come up with creative solutions using technology and other creative resources. Girls will learn the skills to find problems that impact their world and come up with inventions that make it better, and then jump into the process of turning her ideas into real products and services that people can use! We’ll dive into the invention process of brainstorming, engineering design models, and pitching a solution to a problem...learning what it takes to bring an invention to market. Girls will become "Founders" of their own companies and end the week presenting their pitch to our Project Scientist community! Camper Quote: “I’m always making things to help my mom around the house. I made a picker-upper for trash at the beach, and I have a TON of other ideas for inventions that I haven’t even started on yet.” |
From toys to amusement parks, we’ll use our imagination to uncover how art design plays a part in creating experiences that entertain us. From story development to design, we’ll learn how prototypes are brought to life. Exploring art, theatre design, animatronics, stop-motion, augmented and mixed realities we’ll delve into our creative side for sensory-loaded experiences. Camper Quote: “My dream job is to be an Imagineer or an animator. I’m more into the creative side of engineering and was inspired when we went to Santa Monica Studios and met people who use their imagination at work every day!”
Learn how engineering delivers patient care through the many technological advances of medical devices. We’ll close the gap between engineering and life sciences to marvel at how we use their principles to replace anatomical structures and functions. Explore how these machines, devices and other technologies are used, and make creations to solve health problems. Girls will dive headfirst into dissecting organs to explore how these innovations improve their functions. Camper Quote: “Dissection week is my most FAVORITE part of camp EVER. I don’t get to use my own hands and do this stuff in school. Everyone is shocked when I tell them I dissected a REAL sheep heart over the summer!” |
